Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been in negotiations with the Academy Awards about speaking at the ceremony on Sunday.

According to the New York Post, Zelensky, a former actor, might make a brief appearance at the Oscars, either live or through taped remarks.

However, considering the present conflict between Russia and Ukraine, some are apprehensive that the Oscars may become politicised.

The show’s broadcaster, ABC, is said to back Zelensky’s decision to make a statement.

During his acting career, Zelensky appeared in the TV drama Servant Of The People, where he portrayed a history teacher who is mistakenly elected president after a video of his character ranting about corruption goes viral.

The possibility of the 44-year-old commander appearing comes just a week after Oscars co-host Amy Schumer claimed she is “not scared to go there” when it comes to discussing the devastating conflict at this year’s Academy Awards.

She told Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk programme that she ‘sold’ the idea of having Zelensky’satellite in or make a tape’ to the team preparing the event.

The 94th Academy Awards will be hosted by the 40-year-old comic actor alongside Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes on Sunday, March 27.

Zelensky praised Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher earlier this week for raising around $35 million to aid migrants fleeing war-torn Ukraine.

Kunis is expected to make a statement during the awards event.

On Sunday, Zelensky spoke with the famous couple via video conference about their efforts, as the number of Ukrainian refugees surpassed 3.2 million, according to the most current United Nations figures.

Kutcher, 44, and Kunis, 38, who was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, began a GoFundMe campaign on March 3 to raise funds for Flexport and Airbnb, both situated in San Francisco.

Flexport is a freight transportation firm that transports goods to refugees across Europe, while Airbnb provides them with free, short-term lodging.
