“Babu Shorish: Architect of Peace and Balochistan’s Political Pioneer”

Babu Mir Abdul Karim Shorish, also known as “Babu Shorish,” was a renowned politician, Balochi poet, historian, ideologist, humanist, nationalist, revolutionist, writer, journalist, and founder of the first Balochi newspaper, Noken Daur (New Age), in world history to promote Balochi language and literature.

Babu Mir Abdul Karim Shorish was born in ShamasAbad, Mastung, in the house of Tribal man Haji Mir Muhammad Qasim Rind in 1911. He belonged to a respectable Rind Baloch family (Mir Dadi) Dadizai Rind. Mastung holds a special place in history in the social, tribal, political, and journalistic fields in Balochistan, producing numerous historical figures, including Mir Abdul Aziz Kurd, Malik Ramzan Baloch, Maulana Muhammad Umar Paringabadi, and others.

In the 21st century, Mastung witnessed the emergence of other prominent personalities, such as Shaeed Chairman Manzoor Baloch, Mir Iqbal Zerhi, Molvi Abdul Khaliq Ababaki, and more.

Education:

Babu completed his studies up to middle school in the 1920s, as there was no high school in Kalat State during that period.

Job:

In the 1930s, Babu worked as a patwari in Gulstan Quetta but resigned in the 1930s to devote his life to the struggle for the Baloch nation and the fundamental rights of Balochistan. He fought for the advancement of Balochi and Brahvi language and literature, emphasizing the importance of effort, struggle, and sacrifice in achieving greatness.

Politics:

Initiating his political career in 1925, Babu, along with Mir Abdul Aziz Kurd and Nawabzad Mir Yousaf Aziz Khan Magsi, founded the “Kalat State National Party” in February 1937. Their mission was to liberate Balochistan from British colonialism in the twenties.

Balochistan Labour Party:

Babu and Qazi Dad Muhammad played a vital role in forming the Balochistan Labour Party in April 1941, striving for socio-political reforms and the dignity of the people. Babu worked tirelessly to document the incidents of that age, contributing to a faithful and real portrayal of the era.

Balochi Academy:

Babu played a significant role in establishing the Balochi Academy in August 1961, serving as the publicity secretary and publishing the constitution outlining the aims and objectives of the academy.

Journalism:

Serving as a journalist in Nawa-e-Watan, Istiqal, Zaman, and Oman Balochi, Babu is considered the father or founder of journalism in the state of Kalat. In 1962, he launched his newspaper, Noken Daur, the first Balochi newspaper with Urdu and Brahvi pages. Babu, a dedicated and selfless individual, highlighted the issues faced by the most backward areas of Balochistan, promoting Baloch writers, and showcasing the history and heroes of Balochistan.

Shahnameh Ferdowsi:

Babu introduced Shahnameh Ferdowsi to Balochistan, publishing its verses in his newspaper and contributing to the promotion of Ferdowsi’s work in the region.

Aman Dost:

In December 1969, Abdul Karim Shorish changed his name to Abdul Karim Aman Dost when Balochistan gained the status of a province in 1970. Despite facing resistance, he aimed to establish peace in Balochistan and be a symbol of political, literary, national, and linguistic foundations.

Balochistan’s Lunar Message:

In 1969, Babu congratulated the astronauts who first stepped on the moon and sent them a special edition of Noken Daur Balochi. Neil Armstrong, in response, thanked Babu for introducing Balochistan and the Balochi language to the moon.

Yasir Arafat’s response:

Yasir Arafat, leader of Free Palestine, responded to Babu Abdul Karim Shorish’s telegram, acknowledging Shorish’s dedication to humanity and global peace.

Death:

On December 14, 1986, Abdul Karim Aman, a prominent journalist and political insight in Balochistan, passed away at the Quetta Civil Hospital. He was laid to rest near Hazar Ganji (Rangi Toak) at the age of seventy. Babu’s ideas, courage, and love for the nation continue to inspire, and his monument and grave silently protest against the betrayal he faced in Balochistan.
