QUETTA: The head of the Balochistan Peace Forum and former senator Nawabzada Haji Mir Lashkari Raisani has said that neither the approval of constitutional amendments will benefit Balochistan, nor will increasing the seats in the Balochistan Assembly make a difference.

He expressed these views during a meeting with journalists in Sarawan House, Quetta, on Thursday.

Raisani criticized political parties for their lack of seriousness toward Balochistan, stating they are more concerned with personal and group interests.

Lashkari mentioned that they sacrificed their families but did not compromise on the Reko Diq. He pointed out that both Reko Diq and Saindak have been exploited while political parties have remained silent.

“Those making noise about the oil trade were silent about the Reko Diq deal,” he said.

He warned that if journalists do not play their role in the current times, the situation will further worsen.

He remarked that governments in the province are formed according to external influences, and if the public is not informed, political proxies will waste another five years.

Lashkari added that individuals imposed on Balochistan are only there to fulfill interests and obstruct the resolution of the province’s issues.

Raisani questioned why forces and foreign powers only oppose development in Balochistan but do not have a problem with Punjab or other provinces.

He further stated that political parties are indifferent to the development of Balochistan and the hardships of its people, prioritizing their own interests instead. The manner in which Balochistan’s resources have been looted is apparent, and those who raise their voices against this injustice face obstacles on all fronts.

Raisani criticized the imposition of fake leadership aimed at resource exploitation and questioned the significance of bringing in people from other provinces to become members of the upper house. He insisted that a serious stance must be taken for the betterment of Balochistan.

In response to a question, he reiterated that constitutional amendments will not benefit Balochistan and suggested that instead of spending 5 billion rupees to build a new assembly building, funds should be allocated to universities in Balochistan to alleviate their financial struggles.

He shared that he, along with his colleagues, had formed a forum called “Reimagining Pakistan” with major political figures to address Balochistan’s political and other issues. However, he criticized the political leaders within the forum for adopting a minus-Balochistan approach, which he rejected.

Lashkari also said that as long as political parties are controlled, increasing the assembly seats will make no difference.
