QUETTA: A 16-year-old boy from Quetta has succumbed to the Congo virus, raising the death toll from the disease in Balochistan this year to nine.

According to sources at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Chest Diseases (FJICD) in Quetta, the patient, identified as Khan Muhammad, was admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward after showing symptoms of Congo fever.

His blood samples were sent for testing, but despite receiving medical care, he passed away early Sunday morning.

The test results, received after his death, confirmed he was infected with the Congo virus.

Hospital sources reported that since January, around 60 patients suspected of having the Congo virus have been admitted to the hospital. Of these, 34 were confirmed to have the virus, while 23 tested negative and were referred to other medical facilities.

This latest fatality brings the total number of Congo virus-related deaths in Balochistan to nine this year.
