Torrential rain, thunderstorm take 17 lives in district Chaman disrupting road linkages

QUETTA: The death toll in rain related incidents reached 17 as seven more people, including five women and two children have lost their lives in the new spell of heavy rains with thunderstorm lashing district Chaman for the last several hours, on Thursday. 

 

The power supply and net-working was suspended in the district headquarter Chaman while the highway linking the area of Quetta was also badly affected which also suspended Afghan transit trade and other import and export was also suspended.

Officials said that Pado dam was washed away on the outskirts of Chaman town that caused massive destruction in old and new Chaman. The flood water entered the human settlements collapsing large numbers of houses forcing the residents to flee to take refuge at safe places.

“Heavy flash flood swept away eight new cars parked in show room at Chaman bypass,” a senior official of Levies force said, adding that due to urban flooding all roads of Chaman were flooded with rain water which has suspended normal life.

Officials said that the personnel of Frontier Corps, Levies and local administration have launched rescue operations in the affected areas of Chaman and shifting the families who were struck up in the flood water.

The railway track was affected in Chaman that suspended rail service between Quetta and Chaman while the railway track was also damaged at Sibi-Harnai section at Spintangi area that has suspended rail service between Sibi and Harnai.

Harnai which was also receiving heavy rain with thunderstorms for the last many days also cut off from Quetta and other areas as the link roads were washed away in the flash flood. The link of Makran with Karachi was also cut off through coastal highway as a bridge collapsed between Ormara and Basool area.

Destruction of houses and roads were also reported in other areas of northern central and southern Balochistan as heavy rains were also lashing vast area, including Ormara, Pasni, Jeweni, Ziarat, Loralai, Musakhail, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Sibi, Bolan, Noshki, Dalbandin, Washuk, Panjgur and border areas with Afghanistan and Iran as they heavy rains were also lashing parts of Afghanistan and Iran.
