QUETTA:  Balochistan High Court (BHC) Divisional bench has issued strict directives to the National Highway Authority officials to explain the reasons for not utilizing the Rs. 19 billion and order to immediately commence the construction of Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Road 25-N dual carriageway on an urgent basis.

Balochistan High Court divisional Bench comprising of the honorable Justice Abdullah Baloch and the honorable Justice Rozi Khan Barrech instructed the National Highway Authority to submit prequalification proposals via tender by May 26, 2024, for the construction of the dual carriageway N-25, Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Highway, for Karachi-Uthal Section, Uthal-Kararo Section, and Wadh-Khuzdar Section.

During the hearing of the case officials from the Planning and Development Department, Economics Division, Finance Division, Islamabad, and the National Highway Authority appeared before the High Court.  Informing the court that the Government of Pakistan had allocated Rs. 19 billion to the National Highway Authority for the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Road N-25 but the National Highway Authority failed miserably in utilizing this amount, which the court termed as negligence and incompetence of the department rather than non-utilization of the allocated amount.

The court had issued strict directives to the National Highway Authority officials to explain the reasons for not utilizing the said amount and to immediately commence the construction of Karachi-Quetta-Chaman Road 25-N on an urgent basis.

The issuance of the aforementioned prequalification tenders is the first step towards implementing the court’s directives.
