QUETTA: Opposition Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and sitting minister of the coalition government Asad Baloch have objected and expressed their ignorance over establishing a parliamentary commission on missing persons issue and said that already a commission headed by Sardar Akhtar Mengal was working on the same issue.

The Balochistan government had established the five members’ high powered commission two days back headed by Home Minister Ziaullah Langove after the approval of the provincial cabinet. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Asad Baloch and opposition’s Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani who are also parliamentary leaders of BNP-Awami and BNP-Mengal respectively also included as members in the commission.
However, the BNP-Mengal in a statement issued here on Sunday has expressed it astonishment over establishment over of the commission at the provincial level while a commission headed by Sardar Akhtar Mengal was already working on it which was established on the directives of the Islamabad High Court and recently it visited Quetta and had meeting with all stakeholders, including families of missing persons.
The commission after meeting all stakeholders across the country would submit its comprehensive report in the Islamabad high court. The BNP-Mengal alleged that a preliminary commission at the provincial level has been established to contour the efforts of the commission working in the Chairmanship of Sardar Mengal. “This is an attempt to divert the attention on the real issue of missing persons in the province where instead of recovering missing persons the forcible disappearance of the political activists and students are continuing,” the statement said.
Provincial Minister and secretary general of BNP-Awami, Mir Asadullah Baloch also expressed his ignorance over the establishing of parliamentary commission at the provincial level and said that before announcing the commission and making members, he was not taken into confidence.
He said, “I am not satisfied with such a commission as I believe no result of such commission will come on the issue of missing persons as did other commissions which were set up in the past.” He said that he always remained with his people and truth. “It is a waste of time so I can become part of this commission announced by the provincial government.” Asad Baloch said.
However, Ziaullah Langove, who is heading the parliamentary commission, said that the commission has been established after the approval of the provincial cabinet after which the Home department has issued notification of the commission.
He said that the commission was set up on the orders of the Balochistan high court hearing the missing persons’ case on November 17, 2021. He said that on the order of the high court under the high powered Balochistan tribunal of inquiry commission 1969’s section 3 has been constituted.
