QUETTA: Expanded program of Immunization (EPI) Balochistan’s Coordinator  Dr. Akhtar Ali Buledi has said that 12 days typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) campaign will start in Monday in 153 UCs of 34 districts of Balochistan on Monday.  

He expressed these views while briefing to media on Sunday the District Health Officer Quetta Dr. Noor Bakhsh Bizenjo Deputy DHO Dr. Sanaullah Kakar, Dr. Tahir Zahri, Quetta Press Club President Abdul Khaliq Rind, WHO’s Dr. Jawad Ahmed, UNICEF representatives Abdul Salam, Arif Marwat and others were present on the occasion.

He said around 1.7 million children from 9 months to 15 years of age across Balochistan including the provincial capital Quetta will be vaccinated against typhoid.

In this regard, the said campaign will continue from October 3 to 15 in 153 Union Councils of all the districts of Balochistan.

A 12-day typhoid conjugate vaccination campaign has been planned thereafter.

It should be noted that the mentioned campaign will also be conducted in other provinces of Pakistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan and this campaign has already been completed in Sindh and Punjab in 2019 and 2021.

1780 outreach teams and 189 fixed sites are all eligible. Children will be vaccinated against typhoid.

He said bout 750 staff will monitoried the TVC campaign in Balochistan.

Typhoid is becoming a major public health problem due to increasing resistance to antibiotics, resulting in severe complications and deaths, burdening the health system. A campaign against the increasing number of cases.

DHO Quetta, medical experts and other participants including the President of Quetta Press Club said that awareness is being provided among the people about vaccination and typhoid prevention vaccination because we do not have awareness among the people in the various campaigns conducted in the past, have been facing difficulties.

“Our first priority is to secure the future of our newborns and young generation so that they can be protected from diseases and develop better,” speakers said.

They said that every section of the society including the media should play its role because keeping in view the increasing cases of typhoid in Quetta, the government has started this campaign in the first phase in Balochistan including Quetta.  Around 1.7 million doses have been given by WHO, while EPI requested WHO for more vaccination considering the difficulties of the people in the flood affected areas of Balochistan, on which they have provided another one hundred thousand doses.

Apart from Measles, Rubella and Typhoid, 100,000 doses of the three vaccinations have been provided. The said vaccine is effective for 10 years and a single dose will be administered and it has 80% efficacy effects.

Speakers said that in the first phase, this campaign has been started in urban and rural areas, it will be further expanded so that people across Balochistan can benefit from it.

The education department has a major involvement in the age of the children involved in the above mentioned campaign, therefore a full meeting was held with the chief secretary, education secretary and director of education and letters were issued to all DEOs and principals of public and private educational institutions, are so that the students studying in educational institutions and madrasas can be given typhoid prevention injections during this campaign.
