Smuggling attempt of foreign cigarettes foiled

QUETTA: Customs Intelligence personnel foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign cigarettes and seized cigarettes worth Rs 30 million and seized a truck. 

According to details, Director Customs Intelligence Balochistan Sami ul Haq had received a tip-off yesterday that an unknown smuggler was from Quetta.

On the way to Karachi, they wanted to smuggle a large consignment of cigarettes.

During the operation in Bakhtiarabad area, a truck heading to Karachi was stopped and checked.

It was loaded with foreign cigarettes. The truck was seized by Director Customs Intelligence Samiul Haq, Additional Director Abid Hussain Hekro and Deputy Director Dr Zohaib Sandhila.

Appreciating the action of Customs Intelligence, it said that the intelligence personnel had thwarted the attempt to smuggle foreign cigarettes in a timely manner and the seized foreign cigarettes, including the truck, were worth about Rs 3 crore.

In accordance with the clear guidelines of the Federal Board of Revenue and the policy of the government, the Customs Intelligence personnel are carrying out their operations throughout the province despite the lack of manpower and resources to curb smuggling and these operations will continue on a regular basis. ۔
